On Friday 1st September the USS Salvor came to the sunny port of Cairns for five days rest and recreation. Perhaps the dinkiest vessel in the US 7th Fleet, the USS Salvor carries a crew of 130 and is a tug/rescue/dive/fire-fighting ship that tries to assist damaged shipping in a war, or at other times.

On 14-3-06, USS Germantown, an amphibious landing craft, arrived in Cairns Port.
The ship was rotating into the Persian Gulf, without Marines onboard.

On 18-12-06, the USS Ingraham sailed into Cairns Port. It was hristmas, and we had a pressy for the U.S. Sailors...
Conscientious Objection!
A small "battle" Frigate, USS Ingraham had come from patrolling ship traffic in the Persian Gulf.

On 8 June the guided missile Frigate, USS Vandegrif, an Anti-Submarine Warship and element of the Carrier Task Force of USS Kitty Hawk visited Cairns for six days.
USS Vandegrif was here for Talisman-Sabre 05 - a joint US/Australia exercise in amphibious invasion of other countries.

On 25 May the USS Blue Ridge, flagship of the 7th Fleet, visited for four days on its way to Operation Talisman-Sabre.
The Blue Ridge is the forward command ship for the Asia/Pacific region, based in Yakasuka, Japan. The Blue Ridge controls the 7th Fleet, which projects power into east Asia, and protects US shipping across the Pacific to the Indian Ocean, and Persian Gulf.
